Field Work
"science and everyday life cannot and should not be separated."

Students in P.S./I.S. 121 Magnet School of Applied Life Sciences have the unique and exciting opportunity to extend their
learning. Through our partnerships with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and Snug Harbor, students are
able to think and act like scientists. Using the scientific method as their guide, they hypothesize and make observations in the
field allowing them to bridge the gap between what we learn in the classroom and the natural world.

SNug harbor
Class 701 visited Snug Harbor and explored the wetland ecosystem. They took samples from the pond to investigate the types
of life that lived within this ecosystem. Through qualitative observation they made inferences about the flow of energy within
the ecosystem and constructed food webs. Water samples were brought back to the school to test for the presence of
microscopic life.
